Calculate - Ceiling and/or Underfloor insulation

What you need:

  • Tape measure
  • Pen & paper
  • Calculator

Calculating the size of your house

  1. Measure the outside walls of the house
  2. Sketch and mark the measurements on the paper as you go
  3. Measure all the entrance ways and area’s not to be insulated.
  4. Once completed, divide the different sections into blocks use a calculator to multiply the different lengths of each of the boxes to find the square meter size of all the boxes.
  5. Add all the boxes together. This is the size of your house.
  6. Measure the distance between the joists as to know which insulation to order

Tips

  • For insulating between the joists you will need approximately 90% of the house area.
  • For foil type insulation you will need approximately 110% of the house size to allow for overlaps.
  • For insulation blankets that will cover the joists you will need 100% of the house size

Calculate - Wall insulation

What you need:

  • Tape measure
  • Pen & paper
  • Calculator

Calculating the size of your house

  1. Measure the outside walls of the house
  2. Sketch and mark the measurements on the paper as you go
  3. Measure the height between the floor and ceiling
  4. Once completed. Add the wall lengths up and multiply this by the height
  5. Measure the windows and doors from inside and make a list of the areas (lxh)
  6. Subtract the total of the windows and doors from the total wall area. This is your to be insulated wall area
  7. Measure the distance between the studs as to know which insulation to order

Tips

  • For insulating between the studs you will need approximately 90% of the to be insulated wall area.
  • For foil type insulation you will need approximately 110% of the to be insulated wall area.
